Question: I have had this line down my forehead all my life, even as a small child, what is the issue and is there a fix?
Answer: You have a classic glabellar furrow. This is a crease in the skin caused by use of the scowl muscle. In advanced cases like yours, the correction is two-pronged. First, you need to put the scowl muscle to rest. This is done with a botulinum product like Botox or Dysport. Treating every 3 to 5 months is needed to maintain that effect. The second thing that will be needed in your case is to use a hyaluronic acid filler like Restylane or Juvederm. Proper injection technique is very important in this area to both prevent complication and to actually fix the crease. The product must be placed superficial enough to avoid the blood vessels in the area. It also needs to be placed in a crisscross fashion at multiple levels within the skin to generate the collagen growth needed to fix the crease. Once the crease is removed with the Restylane, ongoing maintenance with Dysport is needed to prevent recurrence. I can typically remove more than 90% of a crease like yours given 4 visits over a one year period.
