One of the most common operations I perform is upper blepharoplasty, also known as upper eyelid surgery. The purpose of this operation is you remove the floppiness of skin that can develop in the upper eyelid as you get older, thereby opening your eye, letting more light in, helping you to feel like you can see better, maybe helping you to feel better as the day goes on and certainly making you look younger and more vibrant.
Now a lot of people want to know how long it’s going to take to recover from an upper eyelid surgery and what kind of limitations their life will have. Well first, realize that upper blepharoplasty generally doesn’t hurt at all and by that I mean really it does not hurt. Many patients won’t even so much as take a Tylenol after the procedure.
Now the stitches are going to stay in for four days so on the fifth day you can actually start wearing makeup if you so desire. The bruises are generally limited to the upper eyelid itself and rarely last more than a week. Now it does take several months to 100% heal from an upper eyelid surgery, but I should expect within a week you’ll be out and about taking care of most of your regular daily business and within two to three weeks I think you should feel comfortable that really nobody can tell that you have just recently had the surgery.
You will be able to drive your car generally 24-48 hours after the surgery. You’ll be able to do normal things around the house starting the day after surgery. Exercise you’ll be able to resume roughly one week after surgery and gradually increasing the activity level until around two weeks you should probably be doing 100% of all of your previous exercising.
If you have any other questions about blepharoplasty or any procedures I perform, please look through my website or give our office a call. Thank you, have a great day!
