PREPARING FOR RHINOPLASTY
Deciding to undergo any type of surgery isn’t an easy one — and rhinoplasty is no different. Rhinoplasty, often referred to as a “nose job,” can not only improve the appearance of your nose, but it may be an option to improve nasal breathing too. If you are interested in having rhinoplasty surgery, read on to learn more about how to get started as well as staying prepared.
YOUR INITIAL CONSULTATION
The initial consultation is one of the most essential steps in preparing for rhinoplasty.
Your consultation with your plastic surgeon will determine whether or not you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty. A good candidate is someone who wants to correct the following problems:
- A narrow or wide nose that is not in balance with the face.
- A nose shape that is not flattering to the face.
- A flat, bulbous, or pointy tip of the nose.
- An uneven nasal bridge.
- An unbalanced profile.
- The angle of the nose.
- Nostrils that are too narrow or wide and out of proportion with the rest of the nose.
However, if you have the following health problems, you may not be a good candidate for rhinoplasty:
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Bleeding disorders
- Heart disease
During your initial consultation, be prepared for your plastic surgeon to ask you detailed questions about your overall health as well as your beauty goals.
REVIEW OF CURRENT MEDICATIONS
Certain medications could cause complications with surgery, such as blood-thinning medications. Before having plastic surgery, be sure to inform your plastic surgeon if you are taking:
- Prescription drugs
- Vitamin and mineral supplements
- Herb supplements
- Anti-inflammatory or any other type of drugs
STOCK UP ON SOFT FOODS
Before heading to surgery, you’ll want to ensure that you have a good stock of soft foods for when you return home post-surgery. Also, keep in mind that a healthy diet can help with recovery, so choosing soft fruits and vegetables as well as soft proteins, such as eggs or fish, may have you feeling back to normal sooner than later. Be sure to drink plenty of water too!
Your plastic surgeon will advise you on what foods to avoid and how to care for yourself post-surgery.
MAKE TRANSPORTATION ARRANGEMENTS FOR POST-SURGERY
Once you are ready to go home after your rhinoplasty, you won’t be able to drive yourself home. It’s crucial to make transportation arrangements to and from your surgery.
